Make the work visible
Begin with a familiar place: a school, a home or a workshop. Ask students to identify the systems they rely on and the trades involved in keeping them working. The exercise turns a general conversation about careers into something concrete and gives different interests a place in the discussion.
Connect interest to a question
A student interested in how things fit together may want to ask about fabrication. Someone who enjoys solving faults may be curious about electrical or mechanical work. We encourage questions that reveal the working day rather than assigning a career based on a single interest.
Carry it forward
Close with a short list of questions students can take to a practitioner or adviser. Revisit those questions after a show episode or book discussion. The value lies in improving the conversation and helping students consider routes they may not have seen before.
