Salaries for Skilled Trade Workers Are Going Up!


During the most recent update to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data, careers in the skilled trades saw a marked increase in average annual pay. We have spoken at nauseum about the reasons why we have a skilled trades gap, and what needs to happen to close the gap. But now we are starting to see the resulting economic drivers of supply and demand closing the gap.


Here’s a sample short list of occupations that saw the most significant salary increases. Annual pay listed includes the most recent available data from 2021.


· Cosmetologist: Average starting annual salary increase was up 25% in 2021.

· Medical Assistant: Average starting annual salary increase was up 21% in 2021.

· Truck Driver: Average starting annual salary increase was up 19% in 2021.

· Auto Technician: Average starting annual salary increase was up 19% in 2021.

· Licensed Massage Therapist: Average starting annual salary increase was up 16% in 2021.

· Pharmacy Tech: Average starting annual salary increase was up 15% in 2021.

· Surgical Tech: Average starting annual salary increase was up 15% in 2021.

· Dental Assistant: Average starting annual salary increase was up 14% in 2021.

· HVAC Technician: Average starting annual salary increase was up 14% in 2021.

· Welding: Average starting annual salary increase was up 12% in 2021.

· Diesel Mechanic: Average starting annual salary increase was up 11% in 2021.

· Aircraft Mechanic: Average starting annual salary increase was up 11% in 2021.

· Barber: Average starting annual salary increase was up 11% in 2021.

· Electrician: Average starting annual salary increase was up 8% in 2021.
