Look before the finish
The finished object is easy to photograph. The preparation behind it is harder to see: checking a measurement, choosing a method, arranging the work and noticing a condition that could change the plan. These are not extras around the real task. They are part of the skill.
Talk about judgement
When a practitioner explains why they chose one approach over another, a young person can begin to understand the intellectual work inside a trade. Experience is not only speed. It is recognising what matters before an error becomes difficult to correct.
Make room to learn
Pride in craftsmanship grows through practice, feedback and responsibility. A useful career conversation acknowledges that learning takes time. It invites curiosity about the process rather than promising mastery as a quick change of direction.
